Operation Starglow

Part 4

Hello, I know that if anyone reads this, you will likely be expecting Steven, but it's Michael writing this last section, I’m sorry for the sudden cut off. I regret to inform you, the reader, that Steven… is dead. I should probably start from the beginning.

Steven went a bit mad after we escaped the laboratory. He believed that everyone was involved in some sort of illuminati-like conspiracy. He didn’t listen to anything that I said. After reading this, it needs some corrections. Steven and I did attempt to sue Malum Genetics after the incident. The suit was lost due to Malum having better layers and more money. Steven was right about that. However, after this, Steven started believing that the government was involved in the conspiracy. He told me that I needed to quit my job before I was executed. By the way, I'm alright. I went to the ER after the laboratory incident. I had to have an eye removed, and my face will always have those scars and burns. However, I survived.

Steven became distant with everyone. I guess he started to write this to help him process the death of Stacy. Meanwhile, I was working with the authorities, trying to prove to them that Steven and I were right. Between parts two and three of this narrative, I was able to give them enough evidence to conduct a search of the laboratory ruins. They concluded that Steven and I were correct about the lab. However, we needed to meet with government officials to discuss the situation. We sent Steven multiple messages and emails, but he never responded. After he ghosted us, we sent officials to try and meet him in person. By this point Steven had become so paranoid he thought we were out to get him so they could hush up everything that happened. He continued to avoid us, ignoring all our calls and evading us when we tried to meet him in person.

Eventually two officers stopped by his house to try and contact him one more time. He dropped a lamp on one of the officers. That same officer died almost as soon as the lamp hit his skull. Steven was now a murderer, the police chased him, taking me along with them to see if I could reason with him and we found him hiding in a warehouse the next morning. Steven put up a tough fight, killing three more of the officers, one with his car, the other two by crushing them under racks and piles of heavy machinery. He tried to escape in his car and we gave chase. I pulled out in front of him as he was crossing a bridge at high speed. He crashed off the side of the bridge. I blame myself. Steven’s life fell apart, he went insane after the death of Stacy, I can’t say I blame him.

I’ve been in therapy ever since it happened. I just hope that it was quick for him. I’m going to finish what Steven started by publishing this story. I found this when we went through the warehouse following Steven’s death. He told me his password when we were in college. Steven’s body was sent back to his father. I heard that Steven’s parents got back together after he died. I don’t know if it's true, I didn’t attend the funeral. I honestly feel terrible about it all.

There’s one more thing. Ever since the collapse of the laboratory, strange things have been happening. A herd of horses were found brutally killed one morning. Some had been strangled, others had been crushed, even more had huge chunks ripped out like bite marks. A farmer went missing one day after finding a clutch of eggs in his barn. Not long after that, a series of reports about children being bitten after seeing a quote, “Wired bird thing,” started popping up in nearby towns. All the rubble from the mountainside where the lab was has been moved away.

Most disturbing of all, an entire town was completely burned to the ground. Blood was everywhere. Buildings had fallen apart. There was only one survivor, a 5-year-old boy. He said that he had heard a noise while he was going to the bathroom. It was 2AM. He went to the back door and saw a huge shadow followed by a torrent of fire. His whole house was engulfed in flames. He had a pool in his backyard, but the cover was drawn. He slid under the cover and hid for an hour. By the time the emergency responders, (Including our Police team), got there, he was the only one left. I’m beginning to get worried. I think that what happened to Steven and Stacy, was only the beginning of all this.

But... I guess, that’s the price, for playing God.

This Story is Dedicated to Steven and Stacy, I hope they are happily reunited, wherever they are.
